How to care for your surf hat
Your Nicawana is made to live in salt water. A one minute routine after each session keeps the colors bright and the fit right, for seasons.
After every session
- Rinse with fresh water. Salt and sand are what wear fabric out, exactly like your wetsuit.
- Air dry in the shade. The fabric dries fast on its own. Direct sun for hours, radiators and dryers fade colors and stress the materials.
- Loosen the adjuster before storing, so the elastic keeps its tension.
Caring for the impact insert
If you have a surf helmet hat, pop the insert out from time to time, rinse both parts with fresh water and let them dry separately before putting them back together.
What not to do
- No washing machine, no dryer.
- No bleach, no harsh detergents. A drop of mild soap is plenty for stains.
- Don't iron it. The hard brim keeps its shape by itself.
- Don't leave it crumpled in a wet bag for days.
Storage and travel
Store it dry, out of direct sunlight. When packing, place it at the top of your bag or wear it: the structured brim holds its shape in onshore wind and in transit, but it appreciates not living under your wetsuit and three pairs of boots.
